How about a joke to lighten things up? Sometimes there is no better therapy than a good laugh to help deal with the challenges of long term elder care. Laughing releases endorphins to the brain that can help heal emotional pain and even physical pain. Why not give it a try?

Here are some resources to help you come up with a few good jokes:

  • Readers Digest - one of my personal favorites. The magazine has jokes and cartoons scattered throughout
  • CleanJoke.com - if they were cleaner, they would squeek
  • Funny Stories - these are PG-13, but some are appropriate for all and very funny

Remember, the gift is not the quality of the joke, but in the telling and time it takes to share.

Here’s one to sign off with today, Preacher on a Horse:

A preacher trained his horse to go when he said, “Praise the Lord,” and to stop when he said, “Amen.” The preacher mounted the horse, said, “Praise the Lord” and went for a ride. When he wanted to stop for lunch, he said, “Amen.” He took off again, saying, “Praise the Lord.” The horse started going toward the edge of a cliff. The preacher got excited and said, “Whoa!” Then he remembered and said, “Amen,” and the horse stopped at the edge of the cliff. The preacher was so relieved and grateful that he looked up to heaven and said, “Praise the Lord!”

Bye!
