Step 4: Take action providing for possible long term care needs
![]()
The Action step is the easiest one of all! With information in hand and family members familiar with options and alternatives, it becomes easy to implement a long term care program.
Not only does protection begin soon after beginning the program, but—as a side benefit of the program—your family will benefit from having all necessary information and paperwork available in one place—investment information, bank accounts, policy numbers, addresses, phone numbers, etc.
An outside with specialized knowledge of long term care issues will be best able to help you set up a program that will work by itself, without the need for your ongoing month-to-month attention.
Responsibilities
Once you have acknowledged, explored, evaluated, and taken action, your primary responsibilities boil down to:
- Living up to your responsibilities by making scheduled payments on time and updating your records
- Communicating any changes that take place in family finances, health, or family dynamics.
At this point, you can sit back and enjoy the security of knowing that provisions have been made in case long term care is needed.
Many families report a new closeness as well as a great sense of relief that a major step has been averted, defusing a situation that can easily drive families apart.
